Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9)
Happy New Year Skyline! Many of us still wonder what the rest of the year will bring. All kinds of prophecies have been given. Let me say this: It’ll be a GREAT YEAR! Every day lived in Christ is a great day and 366 great days makes this a GREAT LEAP YEAR whatever the challenges! Are you ready to set sail?
Crunch time sets us on the edge. We may have lived for the moment yet when it arrives the possibility of failure, the grip of fear, the anxiety of the unknown often paralyzes the strongest among us. I remember the tension of major exams, launching out into my own practice and travelling overseas to preach for the first time. I was so on-edge, I slept little and had disturbing dreams the night before! Well, Joshua faced something even bigger. Moses was dead and it fell to him to lead three million people across the Jordan. He was young, inexperienced and tentative. After forty years in the wilderness, all that separated Israel from greatness was this narrow stretch of water. So too God’s promises for you lies in this narrow stretch of time called 2016.
Its time to cross over. Hear what God says. “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Be strong! The Hebrew word here means be resolute. Why? In case we are tempted to turn back when God wants to take us forward. Don’t stay in your comfort zone. Be resolute! Set your face on God’s best for you! “Good courage” is old English for being bold, to step out. And that’s what Joshua did. He stepped into the River Jordan and it parted. God will make a way for us even if we face swirling waters and there seems to be “no way” forward. This is His command for us this year. Be strong! Be courageous! Don’t turn back. Go forward.
2016 YEAR OF STRENGTH
