Overflowing Anointing

And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them. (Mark 6:13 ESV)

What an amazing time the disciples had! Shortly after being appointed by Jesus, the twelve were sent out, two by two, to preach the gospel in the villages of Galilee. They were novices, almost unacquainted with the basics of preaching, with only minimal knowledge of the good news of the Kingdom of God. Yet incredible signs and wonders followed them. The sick were healed and demons were cast out. What a contrast this was to their experience a few days earlier in Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, where hardly any miracle broke out. For that place was marked by unbelief. People resisted Jesus’ ministry; they even took offense that a local boy could be a miracle worker!

The disciples must have observed all this. That unbelief and a lack of spiritual hunger were quenchers of God’s glory, even that which was the Son of God! Before Jesus went to Nazareth, according to Mark, He had healed the woman with the issue of blood and raised Jairus’ daughter form the dead. But in Nazareth? Nothing! You see, the anointing has no favourites. Whether we are seasoned ministers, mature Christians or new believers, the Holy Spirit manifests only where He is welcome. So when the disciples were commissioned by Jesus to preach the gospel, they might have gone out with hardly any ministry skills or theology, but they had lots and lots of faith in Him. Powerful signs and wonders broke out.

What do you want God to do this weekend? If you come hungry and believing, you will leave filled and satisfied. If you come looking unto Jesus and honouring the servant-ministers He has brought to us, you will receive overflowing anointing from HIM! This weekend God wants you to experience Him afresh in power. Come believing!
