Stepping Out With the Holy Spirit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God – (Romans 8:14)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh…
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law – (Galatians 5:16-18)
What is the one mark of a true follower of Jesus? It is simply this: that he has the Holy Spirit living in him. The indwelling Spirit is the seal (Eph 1:13) or the guarantee (2 Cor 1:22) of God’s ownership of us. But how do we know He truly lives in us? There are at least three major marks. The first, is that we KNOW that God is our Father (Rom 8:15). Our heart cries: “Abba, Father!” when we address God as if it’s the most natural thing in the world! That is the inner witness of the Spirit. The second, is that Jesus becomes so real to us. He speaks to us. As we grow, His glory and truths are revealed to our spirits (John 16:13-14). We grow to love Him and worship Him. The third mark is amazing: our spirits become “sensitized” to the voice of the Holy Spirit. He now leads us, and we have the wonderful privilege of responding to Him (Rom 8:14)!
Are you led by the Spirit today in your daily life? Does He speak to you, warn you of decisions you are about to make, or alert you about things to come? Does He lead you in prayer, so that you know what to pray as well as how to pray? Have you experienced the gift of wisdom supernaturally given to you, which people are unable to contradict or resist? It’s a truly wonderful thing to be led by the Spirit. It is your God-given privilege as a child of God. Why wouldn’t you want this divine Helper to help you? Go for it!!
Where do we start? To be led by the Spirit, you must sensitize and build up your spirit-man. That comes from speaking, praying and singing in tongues regularly (1 Cor 14:4, 13-15). Also your mind needs to be renewed by God’s Word (Rom 12:2, Jos 1:9), so that you will receive, not resist Him. As you saturate yourself in God’s presence, walk by the Spirit. In other words, let your spirit-man do the leading (Gal 5:16). When you do so, a whole exciting new world of spiritual adventure and miracles opens up!
