By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments… For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
(1 John 5:4)
Each Sunday I am excited to be here, aren’t you? Whether you arrive early, or join after the service has started, you sense you are coming into a very special church and a special family. People here are passionate here about God. That’s why we worship the way we do! We love people. Our greatest desire is to reach out to everyone, and get connected because each person is loved by God and also by us!
Every family grows its culture. Ours is one of inclusiveness, welcome, and friendship. It means if you came alone, you will leave with at least one new friend. If you sat next to a total stranger, that person would most likely be a Skyliner who should introduce you to other members of the Skyline family. If you came with your family, then we hope your children would have found new friends and enjoyed themselves immensely, and you yourself would meet other young families on the same journey.
The Skyline family is uniquely generous and helpful. Many have commented on social media about the welcome they have received and the genuine love they have felt. The one mark that this is for real is they come back again and again. The Bible tells us that this is the mark of loving God and obeying His commandments: when we love one another and all those who come into our midst (1 John 5:2) .
How is it that we can love so deeply and widely? It is because we have been born again of God (1 John 5:4). We are a church filled with newly birth beings, new creations! And it is faith in the finished work of Christ who loved us that enables us to overcome our fear and our timidity. We are able to take the risk: to love first, and to reach out first. In so doing, we are growing a great family together that is today 1200 strong: Skyline!
