Faith Story by a Skyliner
I started my career in Miri and relocated to KK in 2016 – settled down fairly quickly in Skyline but it was only until 2018 when I actively participated in 40 days prayer & fast. I’ve been greatly blessed by it. Believers packing the church, and children obediently follow suit to pray for church, Malaysia, and each other, is such a powerful posture of commitment and obedience.
The prayer bowl section is one of my favourites. Each year I would have 3 personal prayer points and every year 2 out 3 prayer points would be answered.
Last year, I was praying to get an assignment offshore. An opportunity came, and though it was a lateral move in terms of job grade, the hiring manager encouraged me to apply, and so I went for it. I did not feel much peace, and I spent more time seeking the Lord for direction and guidance. 40 days prayer & fast was timely and I decided to dedicate 10 minutes of my lunch time every day to pray for this. I also told my mom and also the ministry leaders about this so that they would pray too.
Fast forward to a month later, my supervisor and the hiring manager sat down with me and told me that I didn’t get the job. My supervisors mentioned that they have something better in plan for my career progression – a comment I didn’t really pay attention to at that time because it sounded like a typical thing a supervisor will tell their subordinate. I felt a bit down, but considering how God had answered my prayers before, I had full faith and confidence that God was totally in control.
Then early this year, during my goal appraisal discussion, my supervisor told me that they were working on a promotion for me! Praise God for that! I got my promotion in February. The thought hit me at that time – If I took the offshore role, I wouldn’t be promoted this year. If God did not close doors, I wouldn’t be where I am now. I have been so blessed again by God. With this appointment – I got promoted, and I still get to serve regularly in church. God gave me something else which could be more beneficial for me.
I am still holding on to this verse:
Isaiah 55:8-9
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
When we pray, let’s come to Him with faith and great confidence. Some prayers may take time to be answered and some answers to prayers are “No”, but He is in control of every situation we are in. Delight in Him especially during this forty-days and He will give you the desires of your heart. Praise God!
