Faith Story by Elder Sim Yuk Kiong
Romans 5:5 says, “Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
At last year’s Anniversary Gift Day, I pledged an amount which I didn’t have at that time. Having said that, I was expecting someone to repay me back some money. However, It didn’t happen. Ten days before the due date to fulfil my pledge, I still didn’t have that amount with me. The only thing that I had at that time was the image of another Elder telling me “Sim, you didn’t fulfil your pledge”. Guys, just want to give you a heads up, this Elder is the financial controller of Skyline and he has all the data on the delinquent accounts! I knew time was running out, hence I turned to Pauline, my wife, hinting to her that I might need to borrow money from her. She didn’t say “Yes” or “No” at that time. Later I found that she didn’t want to play God; she already knew that God would open up a way for her husband. But for me, I was in the distress mode.
As the due date drew closer and closer, the financial controller Elder started to appear in my dreams.
A week before the due date, after the Sunday service, I received a call from my existing tenant, a Bruneian. He asked me to meet up for a cup of coffee. We have been meeting up for coffee every time when he was in KK. For me, it was just a normal catch up. He rents a property from me, and the agreement between us is that he is renting with the option to buy within twenty-four months. At the time of our meet up, it was only five months into the agreement. Who would want to exercise the purchase option earlier when there is no discount clause? The purchase price remains the same, inclusive of rental, if you pay now or twenty-four months later. To my surprise, he wanted to activate the purchase option, and he invited me to Brunei to pick up the 15% down payment in cash. I did a day trip, and the money changed hands in the airport. It was more than enough for me to fulfil the pledge, and more. That was three days before the due date. I fulfilled my pledge in Brunei currency, and I passed the amount on the exact due date. After that day, the Elder never appeared in my dream again! God will not let us down. He will not let our hope prove empty. He won’t let us be put to shame. To that end, He pours His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. He gives us a real, authentic experience of His love, not just an argument for His love, but an experience!
