Faith Story by Joseph Koh
There are times frustration and bad things happen in our lives, and we simply cannot comprehend why they happen.
Few weeks ago, I went to a bank to renew my car insurance, the bank officer asked for my IC and I handed it to her. As she explained the terms to me, she fiddled with my IC. As she did so, she broke my IC into half. I looked calm from the outside, but inside of me, I was enraged. I was not a Sabahan and an IC is ultimately crucial for me.
I went to the UTC, hoping to get my IC fixed. When I arrived, I found that the queue was overflowing. Usually, when I see such phenomenal queues, I would just leave, and go back again. Somehow this time, I was prompted to stay in the queue and wait for my turn. The movement of the queue was not too slow; it was quicker than I expected.
At the JPN counter, the officer asked what I wanted to do, and I said I just want to replace this broken IC. She continued, “Oh, you are from JB, but would you like to get an “H” (Sabahan) since your mother is from Sabah?” Let me elaborate – I have asked this question for many years. Each time the answer was no. Now, without my asking, I was being offered the “H”! Again, I looked calm from the outside, but this time, inside of me, I was rejoicing.
I not only got my car insurance renewed, I also got a new IC with an “H”. That is beyond what I have been praying for. Everything was ready that same afternoon. Sometimes, seemingly bad things and undesirable events happen so that our prayers can be answered.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
