Faith Story by Nicxon Chong
I knew that God has called me to reach out to my university community, which I did. Throughout this journey thus far, I encountered many struggles and felt discouraged when I didn’t see God work in the way I expected. I wanted to see God’s calling on my life and to see results, to see His handiwork.
In early March, I shared my struggles with my leader, Ken, and we prayed about it. From that moment, God started showing me things. The following week, Ken shared his devotion with me. He felt that God wanted me to know that when we respond to God’s calling, we don’t necessarily need to see the full picture or the results of what we have been asked to do.
Despite this, I still had many questions and continued to ask. I felt uneasy and kept wondering.
Then God heard my prayer and answered me through Rev. Ong Sek Leang during the Skyline Conference at the end of May. On the third day of the conference, Pastor Philip asked all those who were serving to come forward for prayer. When it came to my turn, God said me that everything I had been doing or serving was great, BUT… I needed to know God’s love. My heart sank at that moment, as this was an unexpected answer. I hid it deeply into my heart and prayed about it.
Less than two months later, during the campus camp, Terence had prepared a reflective morning walk – we simply enjoyed the walk and listened to God’s voice – no talking, no praying. He gave out verses for us to focus on in case we got distracted. The verses I was given were Psalms 51:1, 2, 10, and 11. These verses prepared me for an encounter with God doing big things in my life, and revealing His love for me.
Later that day, after our game session, it was time for us to take a break for a shower and dinner. Before I went, I met one of my dormmates. I felt that God was asking me to talk to him. He was from the same university and I knew about his struggles, so I obeyed God’s prompting. I had planned for a quick chat, but it turned into a deep conversation where he had questions and where I shared my journey. In the end, we talked for over an hour, and I ended up being late for the next session of worship practice.
That evening, during the Fireball Prayer & Worship, the presence of the Holy Spirit was intense in the room. I heard God’s voice asking me if I had forgotten about all the things He had done in my life since I started following Jesus. I was very convicted and felt a deep sense of God’s love for me. God had indeed answered my prayers over time, step by step.
Let me encourage everyone that no matter what struggles you face, God will answer your prayers in His own time.

Psalms 51:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.
Psalms 51:10-11 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
